The most underrated longevity tool costs nothing

I want to share something I think about a lot in my practice.

We live in a world obsessed with optimization and "biohacking." Peptides. Supplements. Cold plunges. Red light therapy. And I truly believe in many of these tools when they are used correctly and at the right time.

But sometimes the most powerful thing I can tell a patient is something far simpler…

Move your body. Every single day. Even just a little.

What the research actually shows:

  • 5 minutes of moderate to vigorous movement per day may prevent up to 10% of deaths over an eight-year period.

  • 10 minutes per day may reduce mortality risk by up to 15% across the general population.

  • 15 minutes of brisk walking daily is linked to a nearly 20% reduction in premature death compared to slow walking.

Not an hour. Not a gym membership. Not a perfect routine.

Five to fifteen minutes of intentional movement. Every day. That is it.

Here is what strikes me about this as a functional medicine provider:

Exercise does things that no supplement can fully replicate. It reduces inflammation. It improves insulin sensitivity. It supports your cortisol rhythm. It protects your brain, your heart, your muscle mass, and your metabolic function all at the same time.

And unlike most interventions, the benefits start immediately and compound over time.

I see patients who have invested significantly in advanced therapies but are still largely sedentary. And the honest conversation I have to have with them is this. The foundation matters more than the optimization layer on top of it. A peptide amplifies a good foundation. It does not replace one.

So if you have been waiting until you have the perfect routine to start moving, I want to give you permission to let that go.

A fifteen minute walk after dinner counts. A ten minute stretch in the morning counts. Dancing in your kitchen counts.

Your biology does not require perfection. It just requires consistency.
